MUSIC FOR LITTLE PEOPLE is an original programme, developed to provide children with a fun, high-quality approach to learning about the language of music and building skills through music.  Music for Little People provides classes for children and their carers, provides classes for nurseries and preschools and also provides entertainment for birthday parties and corporate events.

Music for Little People was established in 1996 by Karen Dickinson MA LTCL who designed the developmentally appropriate curriculum.  Karen has a Masters degree in Music Education and is a specialist in early childhood music. The preschool years are a critical period for learning and a strong foundation for later achievement can be laid in these early years.  Karen developed MUSIC FOR LITTLE PEOPLE to make a significant contribution to a child’s development in all six “early learning goals” formulated by the Government when setting out what children should know on entering school. Personal, social & emotional development Music encourages co-operation with others and builds up individual confidence, enabling children to work both as part of a group and independently.Communication, language and literacy These skills benefit from knowledge of a wide range of songs and rhymes and listening skills are improved by concentrating on a piece of music.Mathematical development  Many of the songs used reinforce the sequence of numbers up to and down from ten.Knowledge and understanding of the world Music plays a significant role in teaching us about the world in which we live through songs and stories from other cultures.Physical development  Finger rhymes and action songs give plenty of opportunity for refining motor skills and co-ordination.  When moving to music, children show that they can move confidently and imaginatively with increasing control and awareness.

Creative development  Through music, art and stories, children show an increased ability to use their imagination, to listen and to observe.  The use of music as a channel for the emotions is one of the most important areas of creative development.

Classes are available throughout Cambridgeshire and in other areas of the UK.  To book a free trial class, an event or to speak to Karen about the benefits that Music for Little People can bring to your preschool setting, please contact Karen as above.
