EFFECTS OF MAGNETISM ON GAS CONSUMPTION.
We have recently been working on an idea which would appear to be of great benefit to Base Civil Engineering. A product has come onto the market which allows gas boilers to run with much greater fuel economy and reduced carbon emissions.
The product itself is a powerful magnet which is attached to the gas pipe supplying the boiler. This magnet has the effect of exciting the gas flowing to the boiler, allowing the gas to burn more freely creating a greater temperature for the same amount of gas consumed.
To prove this effect four buildings were picked to conduct tests on. The buildings were:South Hut West OfficeNorth OfficeEast Hut.
Four tests were conducted. An initial test was performed on each boiler to confirm its proper function and gas rate and the first example is from the South Hut.The boiler was set at a gas pressure of 10.8 mbarFlue temp was 186.1CEff was 77.8%Gas rate was 30.5 KW.
A magnet was fitted to the gas pipe and a further test was conducted. The flue temp increased by 41C but the same amount of gas was used and the gas rate remained at 30.5 KW.To make the saving more tangible the magnet remained in place and the gas pressure was reduced to 7 mbar.
A new set of tests were performed to ascertain performance changes. The flue temp was 181.5CEff was 77.6%Gas rate was 22.8 KW.
It can be seen that the same heat output has been achieved but the gas consumption has been reduced by approx 35%.This test was repeated in three other buildings and resulting savings varied between 25% and 35% depending upon the installation.
As a side issue carbon dioxide emissions were also reduced on average by 10% which as we know would contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gases.
CONCLUSION
It can be seen that if this application was applied onsite the savings that could be made would be considerable and that this item which is maintenance free and a one time purchase would pay for itself very quickly and continue to save money perpetually.
